Truck parking checklist
Questions to answer before you count on a spot, for one night or by the month.
Overnight at a truck stop
- Plan your stop before your hours run low; lots near big freight hubs often fill by early evening.
- If you can't risk a full lot, look at reservable spaces and book ahead.
- Check posted time limits and any fees, and keep receipts.
Monthly truck or trailer yard
- Is it fenced, lit, gated and on camera? Is anyone on site?
- What's the gate access: 24/7 or set hours?
- Bobtail, tractor-trailer or trailer-only? Is there room to swing in?
- What paperwork do they need (registration, insurance, CDL)?
- Month-to-month or lease, and how much notice to leave?
Know the local rules
Many cities restrict parking commercial vehicles on residential streets. Check your city's rules before you park at home.
